Fire alarm triggered in the middle of the NL Wild Card game

Oct 1, 2019, 7:08 PM | Updated: 8:35 pm

The Washington Nationals might’ve wanted to sound the alarm in Tuesday’s NL Wild Card game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

But really, the fire alarm was going off in the middle of the game at Nationals Park.

During a fire drill, you’re supposed to calmly make your way towards the exits.

But with their team down 3-0 after two home runs– courtesy of Yasmani Grandal and Eric Thames– in the first two innings, the Nationals faithful went nowhere.

It only lasted for a few minutes, but in the meantime, it affected the sound system as there was no music in between innings or walk up music for the players.

The Nationals later took to Twitter to explain that there was no emergency. Instead, the emergency alert system at the ballpark malfunctioned.

Brewers announcer Bob Uecker played along with the fire alarm going off and said it was his pacemaker that went off.

The Nationals got on the board in the third inning with a home run by Trea Turner to make it 3-1. Washington would go on to win 4-3 on a single by Juan Soto in the bottom of the eighth inning that brought in three runs.

The Nationals will move on to the NLDS to face the Los Angeles Dodgers. The series starts Thursday in Los Angeles.
