It’s not often PGA pros get a taste of what many of the duffers across the country experience on a regular basis.

But every now and then, tour players give us all a glimpse that they’re human.

Just ask Phil Mickelson.

Playing in the fourth round of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield in Dublin, Ohio, on Sunday, Mickelson came quite a bit short on a putt from the fairway.

Clearly not how he drew it up.

Looking at about 78 yards to the pin, and with the green sloping left into a bunker, Mickelson opted for the flat stick instead of his usual play from that distance.

The former Sun Devil pulled back on the putter for the 234-foot shot and put some power behind it.

But instead of taking the desired line Lefty had in mind, Mickelson looked to be just a bit off on his follow through, resulting in the ball veering to the left at a much slower speed than intended.

The ball never made it to the green, leaving a short chip for Mickelson.

Luckily, Lefty has a good sense of humor.

“I saw that playing out differently in my mind,” Mickelson said after the putt.

But like most of Mickelson’s bad shots, they are quickly forgotten by his next shot.

Doing what he does best, Mickelson made up for the botched putt with a stellar flop shot inches from the hole to save par.

Mickelson finished tied for 54th at nine-over for the tournament and six-over for the day.
