A familiar face will be alongside Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams on the bench this season as the team announced on Friday the hiring of Kevin Young as an assistant coach.

Young spent four seasons as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers, previously coaching at the G-League level.

Williams and Young served under head coach Brett Brown in Philadelphia during the 2018-19 season before Williams was hired by the Suns.

Young was interviewed for 76ers’ head coaching job after Brown was fired following the team’s early exit from the 2020 playoffs, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, but former Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers was hired in his place.

Young joins a staff under Williams that features Willie Green, Mark Bryant, Randy Ayers and Brian Randle.

Philadelphia in the season Williams and Young coached together finished third in the NBA Eastern Conference with a record of 51-31, falling in the Eastern Conference Finals to the eventual champion Toronto Raptors, 4-3.
