Justin Turner pulled from World Series Game 6 after positive coronavirus test

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner was removed from the Dodgers’ World Series-clinching victory after testing positive for the coronavirus.

The red-headed third baseman was replaced on defense in the eighth inning and was not on the field as Los Angeles celebrated its first championship since 1988.

Dodgers players and coaches did not all have on face masks as they celebrated together on the field but were nearly all wearing masks during the trophy presentation. Plenty of hugs and high fives were exchanged between teammates.

“We learned during the game Justin tested positive and he was immediately isolated to prevent spread,” commissioner Rob Manfred said after presenting Los Angeles with the championship trophy.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that the lab handling MLB’s tests found out in the second inning that Turner’s test was inconclusive and the league immediately notified the Dodgers.

Manfred also presented the World Series MVP award to the Dodgers’ Corey Seager, who did not have his mask on at the time.

Turner was later seen on the field with a mask on holding the World Series trophy.
