Could Ian Kennedy be an All-Star?

Jun 13, 2011, 5:12 PM | Updated: 6:25 pm

The 2011 Major League Baseball All-Star game will be at Chase Field and Diamondbacks fans would love to see as many hometown players as possible.

Shortstop Stephen Drew, right fielder Justin Upton and closer J.J. Putz are all having tremendous season and could be selected to the Mid-summer Classic, but Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, thinks another Diamondback may be a dark horse candidate to join them.

Opening day starter Ian Kennedy is quietly putting together a very good season. The right handed pitcher currently has a 7-2 record with a 3.23 ERA.

Kennedy has thrown one shutout this season and is undefeated on the road.

While Kennedy may be a bit of a reach to make the team because of his lack of star power, fans should not underestimate his recent success against baseball’s top clubs.

In his last 41 innings pitched against San Francisco, Kennedy has posted 39 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.16.

Obviously it is important to perform well throughout the first half to be named to the all-star team, but pitching well in front of National League All-Star Manager Bruce Bochy would certainly be a positive step for Kennedy.
