LISTEN: Cory Redding, Cardinals defensive lineman

As the new wearer of No. 90 for the Arizona Cardinals, defensive end Cory Redding has made a vow to his teammates, the organization and the fans.

Sounding a bit like the previous No. 90, Darnell Dockett, Redding said he’ll bring “nothing but energy and passion every play.”

“I’m blessed to play a kid’s game,” he said to Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s Bickley and Marotta Monday. “Why not go out on the field and lay it on the line every time I step on that grass?

“I’m going to give you all of me as far as passion and energy goes, and just try to get to the ball carrier and make some plays.”

Big words from Redding, who has spent so many years in the NFL at this point, you kind of have to believe him.

The veteran is in his 13th season and has played for the Lions, Seahawks, Ravens and Colts, amassing 413 total tackles, 35.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries and one interception along the way. He was picked up by the Cardinals as a free agent and signed to a two-year, $6 million deal.

Redding is 6-foot-4, 318 pounds, but his passion is a lot bigger than that. Despite being downright elderly in comparison to the average NFL player at 34 years old, he’s not done just yet.
