Diamondbacks’ A.J. Pollock steals his way into team history

...

In 38 games, Arizona Diamondbacks centerfielder (and this season’s 11-time leadoff man) A.J. Pollock had just six stolen bases.

In the 39th, a 6-1 win over the Marlins in Miami, he had three — and became the first player in D-backs history to steal second, third and home in the same game.

He is the sixth player to do so since 1999, and the last time that sequence was accomplished it was by Dee Gordon in 2011.

Pollock started with a sneaky sprint to home — a partner first-and-third effort with David Peralta, who made the jump to second to start the pickle. First baseman Michael Morse threw to home as Pollock took off from third, and he made it safely while Peralta did the same at second.

It was the seventh time in team history a D-backs player has stolen home — Peralta did it himself against Colorado in 2014.

His second steal of the night was a clean outside-the-bag slide into second, and his third was to third base.

Pollock’s quick feet helped the D-backs to an impressive feat of their own: The team’s six total stolen bases (Aaron Hill, Nick Ahmed and Tuffy Gosewisch had one apiece) are the most in a game this season and just one less than the team record.

The centerfielder has nine steals in his stat column this season. He had 12 in 2013 and 14 in 2014.

Pollock also went 3-for-4 with four runs and a walk against Miami.
