‘Cardinals Flight Plan’ goes behind the scenes of the 2021 NFL Draft

May 24, 2021, 7:49 PM

The latest episode of “Cardinals Flight Plan” gave a behind-the-scenes look at the Arizona Cardinals’ 2021 NFL Draft.

The cameras were in the draft room as general manager Steve Keim and his staff made selections.

Footage included some snippets from the first round and Keim’s wait to see if Tulsa linebacker Zaven Collins would be available for the Cardinals with the 16th overall pick.

He was, the Cardinals picked him and then it was to team president Michael Bidwill’s private plane to pick up Collins in Oklahoma.

Bidwill had the plane flown over Collins’ hometown to give him a unique view of his town.

He arrived in his new one, Phoenix, and was quickly welcomed by the weather.

“Man, it’s warm here!” Collins said

Collins got a tour of the facilities, signed some autographs and met some coaches.

Cardinals linebackers coach Bill Davis then broke down some film of Collins.

“A rare size, speed, athleticism combo,” Davis said, showing how Collins checks so many boxes as a linebacker.

Days 2 and 3 were shown and that included how the Cardinals traded up into the fourth round to select Florida cornerback Marco Wilson.

Cardinals director of football administration Matt Harriss was on the phone with the Baltimore Ravens, who offered a trade to the Cardinals that was rejected by Keim but was one Arizona countered.

That counter was accepted and Wilson became a Cardinal.

All the rookies got their first impression of coming to work as a part of rookie minicamp, with the usual photo-taking and introductory press conferences as a precursor before getting on the field to get some work done.
