The Arizona Diamondbacks announced they have acquired pitcher Yaifer Perdomo and catcher J.J. D’Orazio from the Toronto Blue Jays, two players to be named later from the teams’s trade on July 30 involving reliever Joakim Soria.

Both Perdomo and D’Orazio are in the beginning of their professional baseball journeys.

Perdomo, 20, was signed by Toronto in 2019, and after playing in the Dominican Summer League that year, recently made his debut at the Single-A level this year. He had a 2.45 ERA in eight appearances (seven starts) at the rookie-ball level.

The 19-year-old D’Orazio joined the Blue Jays organization a year earlier than Perdomo, giving him the chance to play rookie ball in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down minor league baseball in 2020. This season, D’Orazio was also at the Single-A level, like Perdomo.

Soria, 37, appeared in 31 games for Arizona, posting a 1.33 WHIP and 4.30 ERA, the latter of which tied for the second-worst mark in his MLB career that began in 2007.

With the Blue Jays, Soria landed on the injured list less than a week after arriving in Toronto due to inflammation in his right middle finger. Soria was reinstated from the injured list on Aug. 30, and entering play on Wednesday, had appeared in four games across 3.2 innings with zero earned runs.
