Suns’ winning streak ends at 18 games after loss to Warriors

Dec 3, 2021, 10:39 PM

The Phoenix Suns’ 18-game winning streak that became a franchise record on Thursday ended on Friday after a 118-96 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

It’s the first defeat for the Suns in 37 calendar days.

Stephen Curry had 23 points for the Warriors while Phoenix’s Deandre Ayton also scored 23 points.

The Suns’ offense struggled without Devin Booker (hamstring), registering under 100 points for only the third time this season. The Warriors hit 19 three-pointers.

Suns wing Mikal Bridges exited the game in the first half after dislocating his right pinky finger but returned to the game later in the half.

It was a difficult fixture for the Suns, having played the night prior in Phoenix against the Detroit Pistons before flying to San Francisco that night for the second game of a back-to-back. It was the second time this week the two teams at the top of the Western Conference had faced off, with Tuesday’s matchup resulting in a 104-96 victory for Phoenix.

The loss for the Suns is their first since the fourth game of the season, a 110-107 loss to the Sacramento Kings at home on Oct. 27.

The winning streak lasted over a month and saw Phoenix go undefeated in the month of November with a record of 16-0. The Suns became the sixth team in league history to have that record in a month.

Suns head coach Monty Williams was named Western Conference Coach of the Month for October/November while Booker was nominated for Western Conference Player of the Month, losing it to Curry.
