Miles Bridges’ ankle injury not expected to be serious

The Phoenix Suns' new starting power forward did not return in the team's second game of the preseason.

Phoenix Suns forward Miles Bridges exited the team’s preseason game against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday after going down with an injury early in the second quarter.

The injury is not serious but could potentially knock him out for Phoenix’s next preseason game Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.

Bridges appeared to twist his ankle after colliding with Bulls guard Norman Powell while going after a loose ball. He got up on his own and continued to play, but exited the game and went to the locker room at the next dead ball.

Bridges did not return in the first half and was officially ruled out by the team as the second half got underway.

A newcomer to Phoenix this season as part of a trade involving Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale, Bridges’ arrival came with controversy because of his off-the-court history with domestic violence charges. In addition to Allen and O’Neale, the Suns gave up an unprotected 2033 first-round pick to acquire him.

Bridges showed promise in Phoenix’s first preseason game against the Detroit Pistons on Monday, finishing with eight points, five rebounds and four assists in 14 minutes of play (all during the first half).

Suns head coach Jordan Ott gave the starters a longer leash against Chicago — playing them into the third quarter — but seemed to be playing it safe with Bridges’ injury by keeping him out, assuming the injury is not more serious.

Bridges scored three points on an and-1 reverse layup to go along with a rebound and an assist in the eight minutes he played before he got injured.

Second-year forward Rasheer Fleming took his place in the opening lineup to begin the second half.

The Suns play three more preseason games before opening the regular season on Oct. 21 against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Former Arizona player Tobe Awaka and former Suns Jalen Smith combined for 27 points shooting 11 of 16 from the field and grabbed 19 rebounds with 11 on the offensive glass. They added three steals and a blocked shot.

Former center and Spurs player Tiago Splitter, who owns four Gold Medals and an NBA championship, brought the core values of Popovich to Chicago and helped Awaka and Smith play like All-Stars versus the centerless Suns.

If your team's starting center is Oso Ighodaro and best player is Dillon Brooks, expect the losses to add up.

Mat Ishbia still believes he knows more about NBA basketball than everybody else. Trading two 1st rd picks then re=signing the chronically injured Mark Williams. Accepting Jalen Green for KD while planning on keeping Devin Booker. Trading your valuable FRP for an undersized PF in Miles Bridges. Getting excited over signing Luke "Turnstile Defense" Kennard. Still hoping Ryan Dunn will become an NBA player. Wasting a roster spot on a marginal NBA player in his prime Haywood Highsmith.
