Cardinals’ 2-touchdown comeback falls short vs. unbeaten Eagles

The Arizona Cardinals’ two-score comeback attempt fell short 20-17 on Sunday vs. the Philadelphia Eagles (5-0) after newly signed kicker Matt Ammendola missed a field goal that would have sent the game to overtime.

Early on, Arizona had no answer for Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, who finished 26-for-36 for 239 passing yards, 61 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in the game.

Once again, Arizona could not muster any points in the first quarter and trailed 14-0 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the second quarter. The Cardinals have yet to score in the first quarter this season.

The defense forced Philadelphia’s second punt of the game halfway through the second quarter and the Cardinals capitalized with a 25-yard strike to Marquise Brown. This was just the second touchdown in the first half for the Cardinals this year.

The Cardinals (2-3) added a field goal before the half and ended up tying the game at 17 a piece with under 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Philadelphia burned 7:58 seconds en route to a field goal, giving the Cardinals the ball back with 1:45 down one score.

Arizona drove 10-plays, 50 yards to set up a 43-yard field goal for Ammendola. The kick was wide right and the Eagles left State Farm Stadium unbeaten through five games.

Cardinals QB Kyler Murray finished 28-for-42 for 250 passing yards, 42 rushing yards and one interception.

Arizona travels to Seattle to take on the Seahawks next Sunday at Lumen Field.
