Last week’s 28-point first half against the New Orleans Saints remains a one-off for the Arizona Cardinals.

Like the first six games of the year, Arizona’s offense Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings scuffled in the first half at U.S. Bank Stadium — at least until the final Cardinals possession of the second quarter.

Arizona marched 72 yards in 10 plays as a one-handed catch by DeAndre Hopkins pulled his team within 14-10 of Minnesota with 47 seconds remaining on the clock.

In his second game back from a PED suspension, Hopkins remained the offensive leader for the Cardinals early in the game. Hopkins finished with 12 catches on 13 targets for 159 yards and that touchdown grab.

For the Vikings in their eventual 34-26 win, running back Dalvin Cook carried enough of a load to help the Vikings lead 14-10 at halftime.

He rushed for 80 yards on nine carries (8.9 yards per rush) with a long of 30 to finish at 111 yards and 20 carries.

As a team, Minnesota found itself at 134 rushing yards in the first half and 173 for the game. Quarterback Kirk Cousins contributed a 17-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to open the scoring. Alexander Mattison added 40 yards on five carries along with a touchdown.

Arizona in a full game had not allowed more than 139 yards on the ground through its 3-4 start heading into the game.

And Minnesota had not tallied more than 126 in a single game this year.

For Cook individually, he had yet to surpass 96 rushing yards in an entire game through Minnesota’s 5-1 start to the year.
