Report: Proposed 3-team Crowder trade had Suns acquiring Rockets’ Gordon or Martin Jr.

Dec 12, 2022, 10:02 AM | Updated: 11:43 am

The Suns “recently” had trade discussions around a skeleton of a deal that involved Jae Crowder heading to the Milwaukee Bucks with one or both of the Houston Rockets’ Eric Gordon and Kenyon Martin Jr. joining Phoenix, reports The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Milwaukee was to send four second-round picks and players to Houston in that trade, but the Rockets are seeking a first-round pick for each of Gordon and Martin Jr.

Charania adds the Rockets are less willing to trade Martin, the 21-year-old who is averaging 10.7 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting 54% from the field.

Gordon, 33, played in a backcourt with Suns point guard Chris Paul and former Rockets guard James Harden from 2017-19.

He would provide added perimeter help to Paul and Devin Booker.

This season, Gordon is averaging 12.2 points and 2.5 assists per game, shooting 44% from the field and 35% beyond the three-point line.

As for Crowder, who has been away from the Suns as they search for a trade, the Bucks have continued looking for three-team frameworks to acquire him. Charania also adds that the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat remain interested in Crowder.

Some of those teams will have a better ability to trade for Crowder with a few of their players becoming trade eligible starting this week.

For example, Miami’s Victor Oladipo and Dewayne Dedmon, plus the Bucks’ Jordan Nwora and Pat Connaughton become trade eligible in the next month, according to Spotrac.
