It’s September 1, meaning Major League Baseball teams can expand their rosters for the last month of the season.

That’s exactly what the Arizona Diamondbacks did Tuesday by recalling relief pitchers Enrique Burgos and Matt Stites and infielder Brandon Drury from Triple-A Reno.

Burgos, 24, will begin his third stint with the big league club. In two previous call-ups, the right-hander went 1-2 with a 5.14 ERA in 22 relief appearances. Burgos notched 11 saves for Reno and Mobile in the minors.

Stites pitched in 23 games for Reno this season, posting a 1-1 record, a 3.86 ERA and three saves. He’s seen limited big-league action, appearing in four games out of the Arizona bullpen an posting an identical 3.86 ERA.

Drury will make his first appearance with the D-backs. After being acquired by Arizona in the trade that sent Justin Upton to Atlanta in 2013, Drury has continued to work his way through the organization. This season in Mobile and Reno, the 23-year-old batted .303 with 40 doubles, five homers and 61 RBI.

He is ranked the D-backs’ seventh-best prospect by MLB.com.

Manager Chip Hale said last weekend that the D-backs would expand their roster in shifts, with more help coming after Reno wraps up its season on September 7.
