Arizona Diamondbacks fall apart after monstrous home run from Kris Bryant

The Arizona Diamondbacks were in control of the game against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. That would change quickly with one monstrous swing of the bat.

In a 1-0 game heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, D-backs starter Rubby De La Rosa had given up zero hits and walked one. Kris Bryant led off the inning and hit an absolute bomb to left-center, traveling an estimated 495 feet. That’s the longest home run of the season in the majors.

After that, De La Rosa gave up two straight hits, but closed the inning out without giving up any more runs.

That would carry over to the sixth however, with De La Rosa allowing the first two hitters to advance and Bryant coming back to the plate. Considering the last time Bryant hit against De La Rosa, D-backs manager Chip Hale had seen enough and pulled De La Rosa.

The bullpen wasn’t able to stop the bleeding however. Bryant was walked, which was followed by former D-back Miguel Montero’s grand slam to make it 5-1.

The D-backs never recovered despite a three-run ninth inning that included a two-run homer from Nick Ahmed. The Cubs won the game 6-4.
