TEMPE — Arizona State starting center Tana Alo-Tupuola is out Saturday against Hawaii after he was absent from practice (undisclosed) in the week leading up to the game, Sun Devil Source’s Chis Karpman first reported.

Makua Pule got the start with Wade Helton, who was a game-time decision, not quite ready to return from an ankle injury. The pair split reps in practice throughout the week.

Pule had the second-most snaps at center last year among Sun Devils who returned the year (178) behind only Helton (422). Helton was ASU’s starting right guard for the first two games of the season.

He has been one of ASU’s most reliable offensive linemen to start the season, and his snapping has been consistent both in games and practices since he transferred from Georgia Tech.

Snapping could be a major area to watch Saturday, as rain is expected at Mountain America Stadium throughout the night.
