Guard Luke Kennard will reportedly miss the Phoenix Suns’ final preseason game on Friday against the Utah Jazz, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.

Gambadoro added the team is waiting on MRI results.

Kennard left Wednesday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs in the second quarter with an apparent left leg injury after landing awkwardly on a drive to the basket. He hobbled to the Suns locker room and did not return to the game.

After the game, head coach Jordan Ott described Kennard’s injury as a “sore left knee,” and Kennard appeared to be in good spirits.

Kennard is new to Phoenix this season, arriving via free agency on a two-year, $13 million deal. A 3-point specialist, his sharpshooting is expected to be a crucial quality for a team that lost Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale during the offseason.

Kennard led the NBA in 3-point percentage last season (47.8%) and in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.

During this preseason, Kennard was averaging 12.3 points per game, making 5 of his 14 3-point attempts (35.7%). Against the Spurs on Saturday, he scored a team-high 20 points.

The Suns’ regular season begins on Oct. 21 against the Portland Trail Blazers.
