ESPN NFL insider and draft expert Field Yates has released his latest mock for the 2027 NFL Draft, and he has the Arizona Cardinals taking quarterback Trinidad Chambliss with the No. 9 overall pick.
Chambliss, a candidate to enter the 2026 NFL Draft, returned to Ole Miss for a sixth collegiate season after being granted an injunction by a judge since he did not play his sophomore season in 2022 due to persistent respiratory issues.
So far this season, Chambliss is among the top players in consideration for the Heisman Trophy, as he has Ole Miss as the No. 7 team in the nation with a 5-1 record. Through five games, he’s thrown for 1,676 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions on a 67.6% completion rate. He’s added five rushing touchdowns, as well.
He led Ole Miss to a semifinals appearance in the 2025-26 College Football Playoff after throwing for 362 yards and two touchdowns in an upset victory over No. 3 Georgia.
Yates projects Chambliss to the Cardinals because he’s not sold on rookie Carson Beck being the franchise’s quarterback of the future:
The Cardinals made enough of an investment in Carson Beck this April (65th overall) to suggest he could be the long-term starter, but I’m not sold on that being the case. Enter the dynamic Chambliss, who makes up for below-average size (6-foot, 205 pounds) with playmaking, clutch production, experience and craftiness.
No quarterback in this class has played better in big games than Chambliss, who averaged 307 passing yards and accounted for six touchdowns in three College Football Playoff games last season. He has led Ole Miss to three wins over AP Top 25 teams in 2026.

Beck has yet to suit up for the Cardinals this season, as he’s been listed as the third-string, emergency quarterback for each game so far. Veteran starter Jacoby Brissett’s contract ends after this season, as does backup Gardner Minshew II’s.
Chambliss is the third quarterback selected in Yates’ mock draft — he has Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker No. 2 to the Miami Dolphins, and Notre Dame’s C.J. Carr No. 7 to the New York Jets. Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is Yates’ current projection for the No. 1 overall pick to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Of course, the 2027 draft is still six months away with plenty of college football and NFL games to be played that will shake up player stock and the draft order.
