Adrian Wilson tells team to keep working

Jun 13, 2011, 4:41 PM | Updated: 6:03 pm

Although there is no timetable or estimates as to when NFL activities will resume, there are no excuses for the players to not be preparing both physically and mentally.

While fans may be sick of the lockout and prefer to ignore all football talk until there is a resolution, players do not have that option.

“Put your head down and let’s keep grinding,” Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson tweeted. “Lockout isn’t doing anything except keeping your focus off the finish line.”

Wilson’s tweet is certainly open to interpretation, but Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf believe the tweet is meant to inspire Wilson and his teammates to keep focused and working hard.

“That’s wisdom right there,” Ron Wolfley said. “Those are sage words by Adrian Wilson right there.”

Although the games are played on Sundays in the fall, they are often won or lost during the offseason and although this offseason is different than most, players need to be working just as hard or perhaps harder than normal considering the unusual circumstances.

“Somebody is going to win a game or two this year based on what they did during the lockout,” Doug Franz said. “I really believe somebody is doing a better job of figuring out where their team is weak, where their team is strong, something that makes them better and they can steal a win.”

Players are undoubtedly frustrated with the current labor negotiations and want to participate in a traditional offseason, but Wilson’s words speak volumes towards his leadership and maturity.

That maturity is why Wilson knows that when the lockout ends, those that have slacked will cost their team.

Franz feels that some teams will be able to steal a few wins by working hard and focusing during the lockout and it appears Wilson is determined to make sure the Cardinals are one of those teams.
