Starting pitcher Zack Godley’s stint with the Arizona Diamondbacks didn’t last a day, but he returns to the minors following another win as a starting pitcher.

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said following his team’s 7-5 win against the San Diego Padres that Godley, who was starting in place of injured Zack Greinke, would be replaced on the roster by Mobile Bay Bears reliever Zac Curtis.

Godley went five innings in the Tuesday victory, allowing four earned runs, eight hits and three walks in five innings.

The win gave Godley his seventh victory as a major-league pitcher over the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He also has one loss and a blown save as a reliever.

Despite Godley not having his best stuff, Arizona battled behind his 10 ground-ball outs and the bats came alive.

“Just so people know, his comment because he knew he didn’t throw the ball as well as he’s thrown it here or in Triple-A; he says, ‘You know what, we got the W. That was so big’,; and” D-backs manager Chip Hale said of Godley. “That’s who he is. He’s such a bulldog.

“Lots of mishit balls off him because his ball moves all over the place. So if he can get the location down in the zone a little more, he’s going to be something.”

Godley has pitched 15.1 innings in 2016 and has a 5.28 ERA with a 2-0 record.

Asked if the D-backs will continue considering Godley for a starting role this year, Hale said, “always, always. If we needed a starter obviously he’s a guy we’d , and could be in the bullpen at some point.”

Curtis returns to Arizona with one major-league stint under his belt. He will be another body for a bullpen that is without Daniel Hudson through Saturday — the veteran is on the bereavement list.

Curtis, a left-hander, appeared in 10.1 innings without allowing an earned run before giving up six earned runs in four straight June appearances that led to him being demoted to Double-A ball.
