The Arizona Diamondbacks made multiple roster moves Saturday in an effort to break out of their latest slump.

The D-backs announced they selected left-handed pitchers Steve Hathaway and Adam Loewen from the Triple-A Reno Aces.

Consequently, the D-backs designated Josh Collmenter and Mike Freeman for assignment, and they also optioned Zac Curtis to its affiliate team, the Double-A Mobile BayBears.

Loewen went 3-2 with a 3.62 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 33 games for the Aces this season, after appearing in 20 games for the Philadelphia Phillies last year, in which he finished 1-0 with a 6.98 ERA.

He was the fourth overall selection in the 2002 First-Year Player Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.

Hathaway went 2-3 with a 2.48 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 37 games for both the BayBears and Aces this season.

With a struggling bullpen, the D-backs decided to option 30-year-old Collmenter, who went 1-0 with a 4.84 ERA in 15 games this season. He was once viewed as the best available pitcher for the Diamondbacks, as he started Opening Day last season.

Collmenter was 36-33 with a 3.54 ERA in 200 career games with the D-backs over parts of six seasons since 2011.

Freeman didn’t get much action for the Diamondbacks this season, as the 28-year-old went 0-for-9 with two walks in eight games. He was optioned to Reno on July 28.

Following a poor performance by Curtis in a wild seventh inning Friday, the D-backs are sending down the 24-year-old to Mobile. He was 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 21 games for the D-backs this season.
