In his second major league start, Braden Shipley picked up his first career win in a 4-1 Arizona Diamondbacks victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 24-year-old highly touted prospect went six innings and allowed zero runs. While Shipley’s 106 pitches in those six innings were still high like the 101 in his MLB debut, he limited the damage this time around.

Los Angeles Dodgers’ batters had five hits, four strikeouts and a walk off Shipley in the six innings, including three doubles.

Unlike his debut in which he gave up three home runs, Shipley was able to keep the ball on the ground, accumulating 11 ground ball outs.

D-backs manager Chip Hale said he was, “very happy” with what he saw from Shipley earlier in the week in his loss against the Milwaukee Brewers, and that confidence showed in Shipley’s performance in Los Angeles Saturday night.

Shipley, ranked as the team’s No. 1 overall this season by multiple outlets, was able to make his debut sooner than expected with the injuries to Zack Greinke and Rubby De La Rosa, and former No. 2 starter in the rotation Shelby Miller currently being in Triple-A Reno. He has been ranked a top-three prospect in the organization by Baseball America since he was drafted No. 13 overall in 2013.

Shipley’s win is only the fourth by an Arizona starter in the 14 games the team has played since the All-Star break. He will look to get his redemption against the Brewers in his next scheduled start Friday against Milwaukee.
