Cardinals RB David Johnson goes video game on Patriots

David Johnson threw a juke move with the R-stick, hit the X, the O and then put on the burst down the sideline.

That’s an exaggeration. This wasn’t on the PlayStation.

It was on Sunday Night Football as Johnson’s Cardinals fell to the New England Patriots, 23-21.

Just when Arizona needed a score, Johnson used a jump-cut before he ran into the Pats’ defensive line. But he somehow spun off multiple would-be tacklers and took it outside before stiff-arming a defender and ripping off 45 yards before Devin McCourty finally dragged the running back down along the sideline.

The play put the ball on the Patriots’ 12-yard line, setting up Larry Fitzgerald’s 100 career touchdown grab that came with a high degree of difficulty in itself.

That put Arizona ahead 21-20 for its first lead of the game and the first score that wasn’t aided by a New England turnover.

Like Johnson’ highlight-reel run, his stat line for the evening also looked like that out of a video game. He had 16 carries for 89 yards (5.6 yards per carry) and a score, plus four receptions for 43 yards.
