Peats by Dre: Koa Peat surprises teammates with Beats headphones for Christmas

Spirits were already lifted high in the camp of No. 1 Arizona, and star freshman Koa Peat raised them ever so higher with some holiday gift-giving.

The Gilbert Perry High School product recently handed out Beats by Dre headphones to his teammates.

“I appreciate y’all, we’ve been working all summer, all season. Got the No. 1-ranking and I’m just proud of you guys,” Peat said while doling out the Christmas presents in the team meeting room.

Senior guard Jaden Bradley displayed the most child-like wonder of the group, just about leaping into the lap of sophomore Jackson Cook.

And he made sure that he didn’t leave out the Wildcats’ team managers, who previously received Boss cologne.

When you’re NIL valuation is $1.1 million, according to On3 — ninth-highest among freshmen and No. 22 overall — the relative cost isn’t much when compared to the priceless joy from invaluable members of your squad.

In return, Peat has been as advertised from his high school prep play behind 13.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game (26.4 minutes). He has averaged under two turnovers a game (1.7) while shooting at a 56.1% clip.

The 6-foot-8 forward hasn’t had to be a high volume shooter, either, averaging 9.5 attempts per game with his highest single-game amount (18) coming in Arizona’s season-opener against then-No. 3 Florida.

Arizona (12-0) has traversed through one of the strongest nonconference schedules in Division 1 basketball, notching wins versus five AP Top 25 teams including a road win over No. 4 UConn.

The Wildcats have one game left amidst this holiday stretch in the calendar, a 7 p.m. tipoff on Monday against South Dakota State (7-7) in Tucson. Their Big 12 schedule kicks off on Saturday at the Utah Utes (8-4).
