The season of giving is starting a little early this year.

Arizona Wildcats head football coach Brent Brennan is buying 1,000 tickets to Arizona’s homecoming game against Iowa State on Oct. 25, and giving them to various organizations.
The organizations the tickets will be donated to are the Boys & Girls Club, Ronald McDonald House, Kids of Steel and local youth football programs — including girls flag football teams.

Brennan wants to rally the Tucson community around the 5-1 Wildcats, who are off to their best start since 2014, hoping to pack Casino Del Sol Stadium while giving more access to specific programs near and dear to him.
“Those groups that we’re working with, the Boys & Girls Club, that was a part of my youth,” Brennan said Monday at a press conference. “The Ronald McDonald House has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember — my parents’ involvement with the Ronald McDonald House in the Bay Area when I was growing up. Kids of Steel, we have our annual camp with that organization and those young people, which I think is a really great thing. And then the youth football in the area.
“We just want to make it available to as many people as we can, and I thought this was an easy way to engage some groups that are important to me, but also give some people a chance to see this football team play.”
Arizona is coming off a dominant win over West Virginia and is in the mix in the competitive Big 12 standings.
The Wildcats have been narrowly missing out on cracking the AP Top 25 poll for weeks now, so a win over Iowa State in two weeks may finally get them in, making the homecoming game one of the biggest on campus in years.
“This team has been playing their tails off,” Brennan said after beating West Virginia. “These players love the University of Arizona. They keep choosing the University of Arizona. They keep choosing the city of Tucson. And it’s time for the city of Tucson to choose them. And let’s pack that thing. Let’s make that arena impossible for Iowa State to play in.”
Brennan, in his third season with Arizona, has helped carry the torch of turning around the program left by previous head coach Jedd Fisch after a 10-3 season in 2023. Brennan’s Wildcats went 9-4 last year and are on pace to have one of the best years in program history this season.
Brennan’s efforts to connect the football team to the local community are slowly starting to cement the university as more than just a “basketball school.”
