The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Tuesday they have placed infielder Jake Lamb on the 10-day disabled list with a sprained left AC joint.

The announcement came shortly after Lamb was left out of the D-backs’ lineup for their second matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

D-backs manager Torey Lovullo told 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s Burns & Gambo Tuesday that Lamb had woken up with stiffness in his left shoulder, but would meet with him face-to-face to assess whether he would be in the lineup.

“I had a brief conversation with him this afternoon and he said he felt OK,” Lovullo said. “It’s not perfect and everybody saw that and everybody saw how slow he was to get up in a couple of situations.”

On two separate occasions Monday during the D-backs’ matchup with the Dodgers, Lamb was seen favoring his left shoulder.

In the top of the ninth inning he made a diving attempt at a foul ball. While he managed to make the catch, he was noticeably in pain.

Later in the bottom of the 15th inning, Lamb slid head first into home plate, again favoring his left shoulder.

Lovullo confirmed Lamb had an MRI on his shoulder Tuesday morning.

Lamb has had a fast start to the 2018 season for Arizona, batting .278 with 5 RBI in four games.

“We know that 10 days is going to do him very, very good with some rest and recuperation,” Lovullo said. “I don’t want want to predict anything one way or the other, I just know he needs some time off.”

In place of Lamb, the D-backs recalled right-hander Matt Koch from Triple-A Reno.
