Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte was not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Atlanta Braves after leaving Friday’s game with left knee soreness.
Ildemaro Vargas, who took over for Marte on Friday, will start at second base and bat eighth in the lineup.
Marte was pulled in the second inning of the D-backs’ 2-0 win against the Braves on Friday. Manager Torey Lovullo told reporters postgame that Marte would be day-to-day due to the injury.
Lovullo said Marte felt the soreness during the D-backs’ series against the San Diego Padres last week but was playing through it. He added that Marte aggravated the knee issue on Friday in the first inning when he attempted to make a play in the 3-4 hole.
The D-backs face off against the Braves on Saturday in the second game of the three-game series as Arizona looks to clinch a series victory.
All-Star lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (11-4, 2.70 ERA) takes the mound for the D-backs against Braves righty Grant Holmes (7-4, 3.47 ERA).
First pitch is at 4:15 p.m. MST. Listen to the game on 98.7 and the Arizona Sports app. The game will be televised exclusively on FOX.
