Diamondbacks’ Tommy Troy to make MLB debut in left field Sunday vs. Rockies

Highly-ranked Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Tommy Troy will bat ninth as he makes his MLB debut against the Colorado Rockies in left field on Sunday.

Troy, 24, was selected from Triple-A Reno on Saturday as Lourdes Gurriel Jr. landed on the 10-day injured list due to a strained hamstring.

Troy is hitting .307 with a .397 on-base clip this year for the Reno Aces (44 games), including three home runs, 10 doubles, three triples and six stolen bases. He previously had 15 home runs and 24 stolen bases in 2025, when he split time between Double-A (87 games) and Triple-A (38 games).

Although the 2023 first-round draft pick out of Stanford came up in the infield, D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said it’s been a smooth transition into the outfield of late.

“He’s been great now defensively in left field … and he’s continuing to progress,” Lovullo told reporters pregame Saturday. “He’s going to play left field and the infield in an emergency situation, but for right now, just excited for him getting here (and) being able to call himself a big leaguer.”

MLB Pipeline has Troy ranked No. 4 in the Diamondbacks’ farm system. Before the season, FanGraphs ranked him No. 2 in the system, and The Athletic’s Keith Law had him No. 11.
