PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks showed no signs of a team distracted or emotionally spent on Friday, as they walked over the Cincinnati Reds at Chase Field, 9-0.
From Eduardo Rodriguez’s 5.2 shutout innings, 15 total hits from the offense and a warm welcome back for Jordan Lawlar with a home run, the Diamondbacks looked locked in after a wild week for the club.
Eight of nine starters in the lineup recorded a hit and seven drove in runs. The youngsters toward the bottom were standouts, particularly Lawlar playing in his first home game since he suffered a hamstring strain on June 19.
- Tim Tawa went 2-for-4 with an RBI double.
- Lawlar recorded three hits and drove in three runs, his first career three-hit game.
- Jose Fernandez extended his hitting streak since getting called back up on Monday to four games, and he drew two walks.
- Ryan Waldschmidt hit an RBI double and walked.
The quartet went 7-for-14 with four walks and five RBIs.
Corbin Carroll, Gabriel Moreno and Geraldo Perdomo also recorded multi-hit games, with Moreno extending his hitting streak to 14 games.
The D-backs chased Reds left-handed starter Nick Lodolo with one out in the fourth inning.
From the Ketel Marte absence, the up-and-down six-game road trip and even a flight back that was rerouted to Las Vegas on Wednesday night, the Diamondbacks (68-61) had to deal with a lot entering Friday.
They responded with one of their most dominant single-game performances of the season with their eighth shutout win.
“I don’t really want to push that narrative,” Lawlar said of overcoming what happened this week. “I just want to push that we’re playing great baseball right now. We’re playing as a team, and that’s how we’re going to keep winning ballgames. We all care about each other a bunch in this clubhouse, and that’s what we’re going to keep the focus on.”
“We’ve been dealing with a lot, and that’s what we do,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “It’s part of our culture. It’s about adjusting, adapting and going out there and performing as a team.”
Eduardo Rodriguez brings stability to rotation
The Diamondbacks’ starting rotation had a rough series in Boston (14 earned runs in three starts), but Rodriguez ran into very little trouble on Friday. Some long at-bats ran his pitch count up, and a two-out walk in the sixth inning kept him from reaching a quality start.
But Rodriguez worked his seventh outing this year with at least five innings and no earned runs. He only walked two hitters, including former Diamondbacks third baseman and Rodriguez’s Team Venezuela teammate Eugenio Suarez — Suarez received a short tribute video and an ovation from the Chase Field crowd.
“We’re really good friends, and I love that they gave some love to him, too,” Rodriguez said.
With a large lead early, Rodriguez was able to work out of a couple jams to maintain that buffer.
That has been a strength of Rodriguez’s all season, the ability to leave runners in scoring position and limit damage through weak contact and timely strikeouts. His .160 batting average against with RISP entering Friday was ninth best among 169 pitchers. His 28% left on base percentage was sixth best.
Rodriguez’s ERA went down to 2.61.
The lefty said he was a bit tired from the travel back to Arizona. The D-backs’ plane circled Phoenix on Wednesday but had to reroute to Las Vegas due to storms. They did not get back to Phoenix until noon MST on Thursday.
Dennis Santana, Justin Martinez and Taylor Clarke preserved the shutout, with Martinez making his first Chase Field appearance since June 8, 2025.

Hey, guess where Ketel Marte was tonight? At Talking Stick Casino. Check Gambo’s post and picture. What a clown Marte is. I thought guys on the DL were in the dugout at home games. What a horrible look.
