Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker misses out on being named 2025 NBA All-Star Game reserve

Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker was not selected as a reserve for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.

It would have marked Booker’s fifth All-Star appearance of his career. Instead, unless commissioner Adam Silver picks Booker as an injury replacement, it will mark the second time in the past three years that Booker has been snubbed from an All-Star selection.

This season Booker is 11th in the NBA in scoring at 25.5 points per game. He is excelling in the mid-range at 49.1% but is shooting 44.4% from the field and 34.1% from 3-point range en route to his fourth-worst effective field-goal percentage of his career (51.5%).

After an up and down start to the season, Booker has turned it on in January. He is averaging 27.1 points, 7.1 assists and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 47.2% from the field this month.

But it was too little, too late for the 28-year-old who struggled in December and also missed five games due to a left groin strain.

Booker is the second-leading scorer on the Suns behind Kevin Durant’s 27.3 points per game. Last week, Durant was named an All-Star for the 15th time in his career. 

The NBA All-Star Game is on Sunday, Feb. 16, in San Francisco and is comprised of a tournament-style format after recent iterations saw captains picking their teams and an East vs. West format return last season.

Each of the four teams will feature eight players. Three of the teams will be made up of the 24 NBA All-Stars while the last team will be composed of winners from the Rising Stars tournament.

Two teams will square off in one semifinal and will take on the winner of the other semifinal for the championship.

Durant will start alongside LeBron James (Lakers), Nikola Jokic (Nuggets), Stephen Curry (Warriors) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Thunder).

The Eastern Conference starters are Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks), Jayson Tatum (Celtics), Karl-Anthony Towns (Knicks), Donovan Mitchell (Cavaliers) and Jalen Brunson (Knicks).

In terms of the reserves, each NBA head coach votes for two guards, three frontcourt players and two players of any position in their own conference.

West: Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers), James Harden (Los Angeles Clippers), Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies), Alperen Şengün (Houston Rockets), Jalen Williams (Oklahoma City Thunder) and Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs).

East: Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics), Pascal Siakam (Indiana Pacers), Darius Garland (Cleveland Cavaliers), Cade Cunningham (Detroit Pistons), Evan Mobley (Cleveland Cavaliers), Damian Lillard (Milwaukee Bucks) and Tyler Herro (Miami Heat).
