ASU’s Jayden Quaintance out vs. Utah on Saturday with right knee injury

ASU center Jayden Quaintance (right knee) was ruled out for Saturday’s game at Utah, coach Bobby Hurley told reporters after a loss to BYU on Wednesday.

Quaintance suffered a noncontact injury on a drive during Sunday’s win over Kansas State. He started to get up quickly but immediately went back down to the floor, leaving for the bench with 4:47 remaining.

“It didn’t look good how he fell, and that kid usually just bounces right up. So, just holding our breath until we get some answers there,” Hurley initially said postgame Sunday before Quaintance reportedly left the arena on crutches.

Even with the early exit, Quaintance had a team-high 18 points (8-for-11 shooting) with a block and two steals in the win, which snapped a six-game losing streak in the first game playing without dismissed leading scorer BJ Freeman.

ASU’s Adam Miller already thinking about Utah game after body blows

Adam Miller took a few body blows in Wednesday’s loss, first an elbow to the chest then a shot to the hip, Hurley said postgame.

The second prompted an exit for the rest of the half. When he unexpectedly came out to play the second half, however, he forced an official’s hand for a double-technical when he retaliated against some physicality early in the half.

The guard said he’s all good for Saturday’s game at Utah, however, and that he was already thinking about guarding Utah leading scorer Gabe Madsen.
