Arizona State is in the process of extending women’s basketball head coach Molly Miller.

Ahead of an Arizona Board of Regents meeting on Thursday, the university was requesting a year be added to Miller’s current contract, extending her through the 2030-31 season.

If approved, Miller’s contract would run to April 30, 2031.

ASU is also requesting a pay bump for Miller beginning May 1, 2027, raising her annual salary from $800,000 to $850,000.

Her salary would increase across the remaining years of her contract, reaching as high as $1 million by 2030

A breakdown:

– 2028: $875,000
– 2029: $950,000
– 2030: $1 million

Those numbers do not include any bonuses for team success or coach of the year honors.

Why is ASU extending Molly Miller?

A one-year extension may look odd, especially with Miller a little more than a year removed from signing her initial five-year contract with the program. It was worth $4 million before incentives.

But given ABOR’s restriction of contracts going beyond five years and Miller’s impressive first season with the Sun Devils, amending her current deal was a given.

On top of winning 24 games and earning the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth since 2019, ASU women’s basketball also set season and single-game attendance records last year.

There was also a 100% increase in season ticket holders year over year, according to ASU’s request to the ABOR. Broadcast viewership bumped up 53%.

Paying Molly Miller is incredibly smart, as she's the same kind of elite quality coach Dilly is. The even smarter thing would be to lock her up long term, because other schools with big dollars are going to be knocking on her door.
