Adam Miller will reportedly enter the transfer portal ahead of his final year of college basketball, making it a total of 10 transfer departures for Arizona State head coach Bobby Hurley.

The 6-foot-3 guard had a career year as a shooter, knocking down 42.9% of his 3s and 44.9% overall.

Hurley spoke glowingly at the end of the season about Miller’s toughness to fight through physical ailments. By the end of the season, he was battling a hip pointer as well as arm and oblique injuries.

Miller was ejected from a one-point loss to Kansas State on Feb. 4 for making contact with an opposing player. Because it was deemed a fighting ejection, it garnered a suspension for the next game, a 13-point loss at Oklahoma State.

He scored a season-high 22 points in the next game, a double-overtime thriller at Texas Tech.

But he was again ejected the next game for expressing his displeasure with a technical foul call, earning a second technical in the process.

Where does Adam Miller’s departure leave ASU?

Trevor Best, who has confirmed his plans to remain in Tempe, is the only remaining scholarship player from the 2024-25 squad. He didn’t start the year with the team, graduating high school in December and joining it officially in January.

Miller would’ve projected as the primary option on a restructured roster that will include at least four transfer additions and at least four 2025 freshmen.

Moe Odum of Pepperdine and Best, both at 6-foot-1, are joined by 6-foot-3 Bryce Ford, a Toledo transfer who will return to the Valley after starring at Phoenix Pinnacle High, as the only members of the backcourt.

How is a fan supposed to root for a bunch of transfers and mercenaries every season. College basketball is a shadow of its former self. NCAA needs to limit the number of portal transfers per player.

They weren’t good last year so it’s not a bad thing that everyone is leaving. This is going to continue to happen to Arizona State unless the school invests proper resources into men’s basketball. It is not the day of paying a coach and that’s enough. The arena is ancient, they don’t have any NIL money compared to other big 12 contenders. Bobby grinds but he needs more.
