Adam Miller became the 10th Arizona State men’s basketball player to enter the transfer portal, leaving the Sun Devils with just one remaining scholarship player from 2024-25.

Jayden Quaintance landed at Kentucky, where he was originally committed before he flipped to ASU. His fellow big man Shawn Phillips Jr. ended up at Missouri, and his fellow star freshman Joson Sanon wound up at St. John’s.

Senior point guard Alston Mason, who is aging out of the college game after he was the Sun Devils’ most reliable player over the course of the season, represented another one of the biggest losses.

He ended the season on a tear, averaging 18.3 points, 4.8 assists and one steal per game over the last 10 contests.

Sanon flashed his NBA potential early with 15.9 points (54.3% from 3) per game over his first nine games before a high ankle sprain forced him to miss five of the first seven conference games. He found his rhythm late, averaging 18.8 points over the final five games after averaging 6.5 points over the previous 13.

The Sun Devils also have a large void of production to fill in BJ Freeman, who was dismissed from the program as its leading scorer (13.7 points per game) with five games left in the regular season.

Hurley moved quickly to add experience, with mid-major veterans Moe Odum (Pepperdine) and Marcus Adams Jr. (Cal State Northridge) committing prior to the Sun Devils finishing their season in the College Basketball Crown tournament in Las Vegas.

But while Trevor Best confirmed he’d return, fellow impact freshman Amier Ali announced he would also enter the portal.

Hurley's and Dillingham's ASU programs are clearly headed in opposite directions.

Hope is a drug to satiate the pain of reality. You have bodies. You might have moments. Reality is you are going to be horrible. You may win 10 games and that's only if you go 9-1 outside of conference. Keeping Play in Bobby may be fiscally sound, but it'll cost you more $ in reduced tickets, loss of fan support and add 2 years to the inevitable rebuild that god only knows who is going to under take. Let alone the needed remodeling of that Christown Mall you play in.
