Reports: ASU’s Shawn Phillips Jr. entering transfer portal

Arizona State big man Shawn Phillips Jr. is entering the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

The big man appeared in 31 games (12 starts) in his second season with the Sun Devils last year. He averaged 5.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks across 18 minutes per game and recorded a pair of double doubles.

The news of his decision comes hours after it was learned that fellow big man Jayden Quaintance underwent ACL surgery and will consider entering the transfer portal.

Quaintance is one of the highest-rated prospects in program history and was mocked as a top-5 NBA Draft pick in 2026.

Phillips and Quaintance aren’t the only Sun Devils who could be donning different threads next year.

Joson Sanon is already doing just that, having entered the portal and signing with St. John’s.

Arizona State will also be without leading scorer Alston Mason and Basheer Jihad due to running out of eligibility. Jihad was the team’s third-leading scorer behind BJ Freeman, who was dismissed midseason for conduct detrimental to the team.

That’s not to say there haven’t been some additions to Bobby Hurley’s squad ahead of a contract year for the head coach.

Through the portal so far, Arizona State has landed former CSUN foward Marcus Adams Jr. and ex-Pepperdine guard Moe Odum.
