Former ASU S Myles ‘Ghost’ Rowser goes to Houston with reported transfer exception

Arizona State safety Myles “Ghost” Rowser is transferring to Houston ahead of a newly granted fifth college season, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

This is after Rowser announced that he was entering the portal.

While most players in Rowser’s high school class of 2022 were granted a fifth year by a recent court order — so that the new “5 for 5” NCAA rule allowing student-athletes five years to play five seasons would apply to them — the order did not open the portal for the newly eligible players.

His official entry into the portal cited a temporary restraining order that made an exception and allowed him to enter, Zenitz first reported Sunday.

A fan favorite for his hard hits, Rowser racked up 182 tackles, 7.5 for loss, one sack and eight passes defensed over his 27 games in two seasons as a Sun Devil.

Head coach Kenny Dillingham teased the potential return of a high school class of 2022 player when ASU’s fall camp opened on Aug. 5, but that appears less likely as each day passes and the Sept. 5 season opener inches closer and now rules out Rowser.

Rowser, linebacker Jordan Crook and defensive lineman Jacob Rich Kongaika were the only seniors whose years lined up, and Crook is not eligible because he has already played several games in the Canadian Football League.

It remains to be seen whether Kongaika can or wants to overcome any hurdles standing between a reunion with the team. The defensive line already looks like one of ASU’s deeper position groups.
