Montana Warren among 9 Sun Devils ruled out vs. Baylor, further straining ASU’s secondary depth

Arizona State will be without two defensive backs from its two-deep rotation, as Montana Warren joined Xavion Alford on the list of nine Sun Devils out for the Big 12 opener at Baylor.

Warren, who has played most of his 2025 snaps at nickel, has also played safety and could’ve helped provide relief in the absence of Alford, who was ruled out on Wednesday. Warren was previously listed on the Big 12 availability report as questionable.

Adrian “Boogie” Wilson started in Alford’s place against Texas State and is expected to again on Saturday. Reserve defensive backs Rodney Bimage Jr., Nyland Green and Jack Bal could see increased snaps behind the starting group.

Secondary play will be a key factor in the matchup against Baylor, which is led by Sawyer Robertson’s 1,070 passing yards spread across five receivers with at least 10 receptions and 100 yards each.

In addition to Alford and Warren, ASU will be without slot receiver Jalen Moss from its two-deep.

Linebacker Zyrus Fiaseu was questionable on Wednesday’s report but upgraded to probable by Thursday. Fiaseu, defensive lineman Zac Swanson and punter Kanyon Floyd were listed on Saturday as game-time decisions.

Reserve offensive linemen Doughless Teloma and Brent Helton, tight end Jayden Fortier and quarterback Cam Dyer were also ruled out. Defensive back Plas Johnson (ACL) and defensive lineman My’Keil Gardner (Achilles) are expected to miss the rest of the season.

Baylor tight end Michael Trigg, widely considered an NFL prospect, will be a game-time decision.

The Bears will be without nickel Carl Williams IV, whose status was up in the air on the initial report, as well as linebacker Phoenix Jackson, who will likely miss the rest of the season.
