Report: Panthers coach Mike Bercovici promoted to pass-game coordinator

Carolina Panthers assistant quarterbacks coach and former Cardinal and Sun Devil Mike Bercovici has been promoted to pass-game coordinator, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Shultz added that Bercovici had interviewed with the Washington Commanders for their quarterbacks coach job prior to the Panthers promotion.

Bercovici started his coaching career in 2019 when he served as a graduate assistant for Arizona State under then-head coach Herm Edwards. Following the season, he joined the Cardinals where he was a coaching assistant under Kliff Kingsbury for three seasons (2020-22).

He joined the Panthers coaching staff in 2023 as assistant quarterbacks coach/pass specialist under Frank Reich and later Chris Tabor following Reich’s dismissal during the season. He had been coaching under head coach Dave Canales since 2024.

Bercovici played college ball at Arizona State (2011-15) and threw for 5,339 yards, 42 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 33 games played. A notable moment of his ASU career occurred during in 2014 when he threw a 46-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass to Jaelen Strong as time expired to beat USC 38-34.

Following his ASU tenure, Bercovici signed with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and was later released during final roster cuts. Then, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Chargers in 2017 and was waived later in the year. After being waived by the Chargers, Bercovici signed with the Cardinals’ practice squad before being released in November.

He later played in four games for the Alliance of American Football’s San Diego Fleet in 2019, before the league folded in April of that year.
