Report: Sam Leavitt to visit Miami on Friday

Former Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback Sam Leavitt is visiting the Miami Hurricanes on Friday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

The news comes after Miami’s Fiesta Bowl win over Ole Miss a day prior.

Leavitt entered the transfer portal on Jan. 2 with a “do not contact” tag and has since visited Kentucky, LSU and Tennessee. The journey to finding his next college football home now continues to Miami.

Leavitt remains one of the top quarterbacks on the market. Former Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby transferred to Texas Tech earlier this month, as one of the first dominoes to fall.

After starting his career with the Michigan State Spartans, Leavitt transferred to ASU ahead of the 2024 season. He played in just four games with the Spartans as a true freshman and won the starting quarterback job when he got to ASU.

Leavitt completed 216 of his 350 passes (61.7%) for 2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2024. He helped the Sun Devils to their first Big 12 Championship and College Football Playoff appearance in school history, before falling to the Texas Longhorns in the Peach Bowl.

The former Sun Devil started the 2025 season as a player to watch for the Heisman Trophy. Leavitt played in seven games, completing 145 of his 239 passes (60.7%) for 1,628 yards and 10 touchdowns before being shut down due to injury.

After the season, Sun Devils coach Kenny Dillingham reportedly wished Leavitt well with his future and looked back on the success they achieved together.

With Leavitt back in the transfer portal, ASU has brought in quarterback transfers Cutter Boley (Kentucky) and Mikey Keene (Michigan) to compete for the Sun Devils starting quarterback job in 2026.
