Arizona basketball ranked No. 5 in latest AP poll following win over Florida

Following their win over the defending-champion Gators, the Arizona Wildcats are ranked No. 5 in the latest AP basketball poll.

The Associated Press ranked the Arizona Wildcats No. 5 in its latest men’s basketball top 25 poll.

Arizona started the year with a 93-87 win over the defending national champions and then-No. 3 ranked Florida in the Hall of Fame Series in Las Vegas.

Dropping to No. 10, the Gators were one of four ranked teams to lose between the polls, along with St. John’s, Arkansas and Kansas.

Wildcats Freshman Koa Peat led the team in scoring with 30 points against Florida. He also had seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block in his collegiate debut.

Following its victory over Florida, Arizona beat Utah Tech 93-67 to begin the season 2-0.

This week marks the first time Arizona has found itself in the top 5 since Week 18 of the 2023-24 season. The Wildcats were ranked No. 5 or better 10 times during that season.

Which Big 12 teams made the top 25?

The Big 12, Big 10 and SEC each had six teams make the top 25. Houston, BYU, Texas Tech, Iowa State and Kansas made up the other Big 12 representatives. Baylor, Kansas State and Oklahoma State also received votes.

The Wildcats are now the second-highest ranked Big 12 team, passing BYU and Texas Tech. Houston holds the No. 1 ranking in the nation despite receiving 17 fewer first-place votes than the preseason leader Purdue.
