Cardinals’ Jacoby Brissett couldn’t care less about record-setting performance in 49ers loss

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett couldn’t be bothered by the NFL record he set on Sunday because it came in spite of a 41-22 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Brissett was 47 of 57 for 452 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss. His 47 completions were two more than the previous NFL record set by Jared Goff (Sept. 29, 2019) in a 15-point loss and Drew Bledsoe in an overtime win after coming back from down by 20 (Nov. 13, 1994).
“I’d (rather) throw for three yards and win right now. I genuinely feel that way,” Brissett told reporters postgame when asked if he’ll be able to look back at the record positively once he gets time away from the loss.
His emotions are also likely tied to the 10 points the 49ers scored off his two interceptions.
Nevertheless, Brissett’s 82.5% completion rate was also a record among passers who completed at least 41 passes.
However, it’s hard to imagine he would’ve gotten the record were it not for Arizona trailing 13-0 by the time Brissett took the field for his second drive, just 5:15 into the game.
Nowhere is that more apparent than the 31 pass attempts to three rushes split for Arizona in the second half. The team entered the game with about a 3-2 pass-to-run ratio on the season.
The 452 passing yards was a high mark for an Arizona quarterback since Kurt Warner — who previously held the franchise record for single-game completions with 40 — threw for 472 yards in that same game (Sept. 28, 2008).
