Cardinals open practice window for starting lineman Isaiah Adams

TEMPE — The Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday opened the 21-day practice window for starting guard Isaiah Adams, who has not played since Week 4 against the New York Giants due to an ankle injury.

The Cardinals also signed wide receiver James Proche and running back Jermar Jefferson to the practice squad to build some playmaking depth amid a number of injuries that occurred on Sunday in Dallas.

Adams, a third-year pro, started 11 games last season and three this year before the ankle injury. Without Adams, the Cardinals have had to lean on Jon Gaines II and Hayden Conner at right guard.

The offensive line has been banged up throughout the season, with left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. out for the year with a biceps injury.

Proche has been in the NFL since 2020, and he owns 34 career receptions between the Baltimore Ravens (where he played with fellow Cardinals receiver Devin Duvernay), Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans.

The Cardinals lost veteran receiver Kendrick Bourne for the rest of the 2026 season due to a fractured tibia he suffered on Sunday, while Michael Wilson is playing through two broken ribs. Rookie receiver Reggie Virgil left Sunday’s game after crashing into the padding of the goal post.

Jefferson is a familiar face, as he spent time on the Cardinals’ practice squad last season. He played in two regular season games but only on special teams.

Arizona placed rookie running back Jeremiyah Love on injured reserve (ankle) on Tuesday, while fellow running back Bam Knight was placed in concussion protocols after taking a big hit on Sunday. Veteran James Conner is not expected to be an option at this point.

The Cardinals return to practice on Wednesday during a hectic week that has also included a reported trade of quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Ravens after Arizona named Gardner Minshew its starter.
