The Arizona Cardinals hosted Penn State quarterback Drew Allar for a top 30 visit on Tuesday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Allar is coming off an abbreviated final season at Penn State due to a broken ankle that sidelined him just six games into the year.
Before going down, he completed 64.8% of his throws for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns to three interceptions. He added 172 yards and a score on 36 carries.
Despite the unceremonious ending to his college career, Allar worked up an impressive resume in four seasons of work, highlighted by his 61 touchdowns to just 13 interceptions.
He’s one of just three FBS quarterbacks to throw at least 1,000 passes (1,002) and have fewer than 15 picks. Caleb Williams and Marcus Mariota are the other two.
Allar also set the school record for career completion percentage at 63.2%.
He brings with him plenty of size to the position, too, at 6-foot-5 and 228 pounds.
“If you’re looking for more of a developmental option — high-risk, high-reward — Drew Allar would make sense from Penn State,” The Athletic’s Dane Brugler told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta last week.
“It was such a bummer for him that he missed the second half of his senior year with the ankle injury. He didn’t really get a chance to show what he could do down the stretch.”
NFL.com’s Chad Reuter has Allar landing with the Los Angeles Rams in the fifth round (No. 157 overall) in his five-round mock draft published April 3. The Cardinals hold the No. 143 pick in that round.
Which other quarterback prospects have Cardinals hosted for top 30 visits?
Allar marks the third known quarterback prospect to meet with Arizona on a top 30 visit, joining Alabama’s Ty Simpson and Miami’s Carson Beck.

Both Allar and the kid from LSU Garrett Nussmeier really intrigue me. I kind of laugh when people casually dismiss those two as if they’re scrubs, they were both projected top 3 possible #1 overall picks entering 2025 for a reason. Both got hurt last season, Nussmeier was banged up last season but LSU really fell apart around him.
If we miss out on Simpson or AZ just decides round 3 offers the best value for one of these prospects the kid I would take a flier on behind Simpson is LSU QB G. Nussmeier. The team around was bad last season and did him no favors, esp his WRs who couldn’t beat man coverage n didn’t get him much help. Had he of been on a better team chances are he’d be going a lot higher in the draft, his injuries really affected him to as he looked like a different QB in 2024 n during his pro day healthy. He fits really well in a west coast offense like we will run, and he looked excellent at his pro day flinging it all over the field noted for his ball placement and accuracy, Allar on the other hand has a huge arm but struggled a bit with his ball placememt and honestly I think his best fit would be a more vertical offense. Nussmeier is a really accurate passer who can get out on the move, plus arm, he can throw from multiple arm angles and platforms, he could end up being a good solid starting QB and if taken in rd3 or so could sit behind Brissett without a whole lot of pressure to start as soon as possible.
I’d prefer to draft Simpson, we’re probably going to have to jump the Jets to get him around pick 31-33, but if we don’t take him the kid from lsu is who I’d take a flier on in rd3/4. I could see Nussmeier being a more athletic Cousins type QB in the nfl if he hits.
We do not need a project, need a guy who takes effective snaps year two.
At 143? Sure, good time to take a flyer, not at 65 or 104. We need players in the 3rd and 4th rounds.
