Report: Cardinals are not trading pass rusher Josh Sweat

While there have been whispers of the Cardinals dealing Josh Sweat to the Green Bay Packers or elsewhere, that's reportedly not the case.

The Arizona Cardinals are not trading pass rusher Josh Sweat to the Green Bay Packers or any other team, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The report comes after Sweat was absent from all of Arizona’s voluntary offseason work, including all three rounds of organized team activities. It’s something Sweat did last year, too.

Still, that’s led some to speculate he could be looking for a trade, especially given the head-coaching change from Jonathan Gannon to Mike LaFleur.

Gannon was one of the reasons Sweat signed with the Cardinals in free agency last year. With him now in Green Bay as the Packers’ defensive coordinator, it’s not hard to connect the dots.

While Sweat reportedly won’t be moved, he’ll still be a player to watch with mandatory minicamp kicking off on Monday.

Sweat, who carries a cap hit of $16.4 million with $9.8 million guaranteed in 2026, is the Cardinals’ best pass-rushing option on the roster and it’s not even close.

In his first season under defensive coordinator Nick Rallis, who is among the only holdovers from the previous coaching staff, Sweat posted a career-high 12 sacks to go along with 13 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles and 17 QB hits.

Had the Cardinals moved on from Sweat, Arizona’s pass-rushing department would be at a deficit, with the rest of the outside linebackers room combining for just 5.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss in 2025.

The next closest sack getter to Sweat was Baron Browning (two), while Zaven Collins was second in tackles for loss (six).

What’s the latest on Jacoby Brissett?

There’s at least some clarity (for now) regarding the Sweat situation.

As for where the team and Jacoby Brissett stand? That’s still up in the air.

The veteran signal caller was again not in attendance for OTAs as he continues to ask for a raise that pays him as Arizona’s starter.

It’s unclear whether he will extend that streak into minicamp, where he can begin being fined for any time missed.

I think that your standards or expectations for the Arizona Sports reporters are too high! Please remember that within the past week, an Arizona Sports reporter wrote that Eduardo Vargas is the 1B for the Dbacks. Eduardo Vargas is a Chilean soccer player. The Dbacks 1B is Ildemaro Vargas and he doesn't go by Eduardo, his middle name isn't Eduardo or his nickname isn't Eduardo.

COMPLETELY made up FAKE NEWS by the media and it’s their way of creating false stories with ZERO sources or credible information.

1. Josh Sweat didn’t do OTA’s last year when Gannon was here either.

2. Josh Sweat did NOT do OTA’s in Philadelphia either.

3. He ALWAYS shows up to mandatory minicamp and any sportswriter that’s worth a plug nickel could look up that information and see this was a TOTAL NONSENSICAL FAKE NEWS STORY.

NOW…….. they are coming out saying that Josh sweat will not be traded to the Packers or any other team. What a total and colossal joke.!!!!

He was never going to be traded in the first place.
