Myles Garrett to the Rams? Cardinals’ Mike LaFleur isn’t concerned

TEMPE — The Los Angeles Rams sent shockwaves throughout the NFC West and the rest of the NFL with the acquisition of Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns.

As many have said since the trade went down, the Rams are going to Ram.

The Rams were already a team to watch this season. Now, they’re easily Super Bowl favorites having the 2025 MVP (Matthew Stafford) and Defensive Player of the Year (Garrett) on the same roster. And that’s before mentioning Puka Nacua and other playmakers on the roster.

But while people can’t stop talking about the impact Garrett could have in L.A., Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur remains focused on what’s directly in front of him.

“You’re not really concerned about that right now,” LaFleur said when asked his thoughts about having to game plan for Garrett twice a year now. “It’s not what kept me up at night yesterday. What kept me up was, ‘Hey, we got two really good team periods. We got a two-minute. Let’s see how that two-minute goes and then we’ll go from there.’

“The best teams, they’re worried about themselves,” the head coach added.

Cardinals’ Trey McBride left shocked by Rams’ addition of Myles Garrett

While LaFleur remains focused on his squad, Trey McBride didn’t attempt to play off the Rams’ trade for Garrett on Monday.

“I was really shocked. I was really trying to figure out how they’re going to get this done, how they were going to (manage) the cap, the salary, all of the above,” McBride told NFL Network.

“But honestly, the guy’s a tremendous player. Jared Verse is also a tremendous player, so it’s kind of like one out, one in. Myles Garrett’s been doing it at a high level for a long time, so I’m excited to go against one of the best in the league, twice a year, every year.”

Garrett heads to L.A. after setting the NFL’s single-season sack record with 23 last year.

He’s taken home NFL Defensive Player of the Year twice in the past three seasons and been named a First-Team All-Pro five times since 2020.
