Durant: Thunder called Devin Booker wanting him in Oklahoma City

Now that Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker has proven he is one of the more elite young talents in the league, it’d be easy for any NBA team to rave about him now and say they want him.

Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant said his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, wanted Booker years ago before he ever put on a Suns uniform.

“We called Devin Booker,” Durant told The Bill Simmons Podcast. “We wanted Devin Booker in OKC. I wanted him.”

Just like life, the NBA is full of “what-if” moments that could have changed the whole landscape of the league.

What if the Thunder didn’t blow a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference Finals against the Warriors? Would OKC still have Durant? What if the Portland Trail Blazers drafted Durant instead of Greg Oden?

And personal Phoenix favorites, what if the NBA didn’t suspend Amar’e Stoudemire in 2007 or what if the Suns had simply boxed out Ron Artest?

So what if the Suns didn’t select Booker with the 13th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft?

According to Durant, Oklahoma City would have drafted him next with the 14th overall pick. OKC probably would’ve had a dynamic trio with Durant, Booker and Russell Westbrook for at least a year. With Booker in OKC, maybe the Thunder becomes a dynasty and Durant never leaves.

Of course, Suns fans are thrilled with the former Kentucky Wildcat, as he’s already scored the fifth-most points by a player before turning 21 years old in NBA history and became just the sixth player in NBA history to score 70 points in a game last week.

That decision by Phoenix was the start of what looks like a bright future for the Valley of the Sun. As for the Thunder — what could’ve been? That seems to be the main theme of their season.
