Phoenix Suns point guard Tyler Ulis underwent a minor surgical procedure on his right ankle and is expected to return to full basketball activities in 12 weeks, the team announced Wednesday.

That puts his full return at the beginning of August, meaning he will miss the Las Vegas Summer League from July 7-17. He will have nearly two months on the court before the regular season begins in late October.

Dr. Martin O’Malley performed the operation at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

Ulis averaged 7.3 points and 3.7 assists in 61 games during his rookie season after the Suns selected him 34th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft.

As the Suns shut down point guard Brandon Knight and later Eric Bledsoe following the trade deadline, Ulis averaged 13.2 points and 7.2 assists per game in 32 minutes a night in 25 post-All-Star break games.
