NL Wild Card tracker: D-backs fight for playoff positioning

It’s the stretch run, which means the Arizona Diamondbacks have made their pre-trade deadline moves to shore up their holes.

The D-backs bolstered the heart of the lineup by trading for J.D. Martinez well before the deadline, plugged what they hope is a temporary hole at shortstop and added a familiar face at reliever.

But other teams in the National League have improved their squads as well.

As the Los Angeles Dodgers run away in the NL West, the Washington Nationals have done the same in the NL East. That leaves the only drama in the more closely-contested NL Central, where the Cubs are being chased by the Brewers, Cardinals and Pirates. After that, it’s on the Diamondbacks to hang onto a Wild Card spot.

Here’s what the NL Wild Card standings currently look like.
