The Phoenix Suns have acquired shooting guard Troy Daniels and a 2018 second-round pick from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for their own 2018 second-round pick, reports 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro.

The Suns’ pick is protected if Phoenix is one of the five best teams in the league in 2018.

Daniels, 26, played college basketball at Virginia Commonwealth and made his NBA debut in the 2013-14 with the Houston Rockets. He’s played parts of four seasons with Houston, Minnesota, Charlotte and Memphis. For his career, he averages 6.2 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.

The news comes on the same day as the Suns also sign former first overall pick Anthony Bennett and lose power forward Alan Williams for an undetermined period of time because of a torn meniscus.

Last season, Devin Booker and Daniels got into a bit of a war of words in the latter portion of a game in Memphis. Gambadoro is reporting that the Suns talked to Booker about acquiring Daniels before going through with the deal.

In the locker room after that game, Booker was dismissive when asked about Daniels.

“I don’t know why he’d be talking to me — been on five teams in three years and he has the nerve to talk trash to me, but it is what it is,” he said.
